The "Diamond Area"
Description
There are a few climbs in this "Area" which may serve to entertain on days when climbing to the higher elevations is questionable due to weather.Ward ( “Winky”) Hastings, John Patrick (of Methuen, MA ; not Brownfield, ME) Tom Schlegel and D Byers made a series to trips into Chimney Pond campground in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s ( in those days “non-Mainers” could actually score shelter / campsites there!) for climbing in both Chimney Pond and North Basins. I’m not sure who did which Diamond route when, except Winky lead one of the pitches of “Diamond Right”.Left to Right we climbed what we called: North Crack, Outside Corner, Diamond Right Side See photos and sketch diagrams for routes.

Low on the Pamola Ridge, to the left of the Chimney as viewed from Chimney Pond campground area.
