Dinosaur Rock
Description
[Edit]Located just south of Carson City, Dinosaur Rock has climbs ranging from 5.0 to 5.12. It is an excellent place for learning to climb as it offers both trad and sport climbs. The rock is deteriorated granite, but solid. It is right next to Clear Creek, so there is plenty of shade in the summer. However, the east side climbs are exposed to the sun most of the day. Best time to climb there is from late spring to early fall. It's not usually crowded. In my photos, I have only indicated the beginning and end of the climbs as most of climbs are bolted or follow obvious lines. In the future I will add updated photos.
If you need more specifics there (used to be) a good rendering of Dinosuar Rock at Lon and Kelle' Harter's website at harter-climbing.aci.net/Hom…
(editor's note: now defunct).
There is a Super Wal-Mart at the junction of Highway 395 and Clear Creek Road, if you need supplies before or after you climb.
