Itchy Phoenix

FA Griffen Boll, Jan 2020

Description

Three distinct rock/climbing styles as you move up. starts on blocky choss with lots of jugs up to a large ledge. Get a solid rest for the slightly overhanging crux up a curving crack and a big reach over the bulge. A much smaller ledge gives a decent rest before the slabby finish with one more crux midway. end at the ledge directly under the lookout bolder. could top out if you're comfortable climbing above the TR anchor/if you set the anchor higher up. would be a great route to bolt, I think it would be too run out to safely trad.

Location

just past the hillside area along the path, turn left toward the river at the natural lookout. the top of the cliff has the name phoenix painted in pink. Set TR anchor well over the edge, there are a few small features that may tear up your rope if you don't. Rap down or walk down the trail another 50ft to an easy path down.

Protection

Tree anchor (three good ones within 20ft of edge), I'd avoid using the large mostly hollow tree near the edge
