Bigfoot's Back Door

Named with Backdoor Man 5.10c at Luffenholtz in mind, Bigfoot's Back Door follows a short, but exciting arete on the NW side of Bigfoot Mating Grotto.

Find the first bolt above the giant boulder and climb straight up over the bulge. Walk right and climb up (5.3) to the ledge under the overhang. From the ledge, reach high and clip the third bolt. Then the fun begins, hug the arete with a series of heel hooks, using crimps on the left side, and hidden jugs on the right side. Clip the third bolt from the solid clipping stance. Now move up and left past three more slightly hidden bolts on the left side of the arete, straight towards the anchor. Long or medium draws are useful on some bolts.

Much of this route can be made easier by traversing left or right (such as into the crack after the third bolt or moving way right of the last bolt), those options take you away from your bolts, safe falls, the AND the fun! Give yourself the most excitement and follow the bolts directly. The falls are safe so give it a try!

since the route traverses up to the tower at the end.
